How to Win Friends and Influence People - By Dale Carnegie
This is one book you hear a lot about but you don’t know what you are missing until you read it for yourself. It’s a book that’s been around for a while but it still does very well and is still relevant to todays world. Being an avid reader, I have heard of this book from other authors even these authors quoting from Mr. Carnegie’s book. This is not just a tell all about what to do but it leads by example. Story after story about the great tycoons and men from history. I learned some stories about these leaders that I didn’t even know about. These stories are not only educational supporting his principles he teaches but also entertaining. This is not just a book to read if you are in the business world or in a leadership role but everyone can benefit from this book. It does help as a social experiment and how to relate to others. Let’s face it, we all can use the help we can get when we are handling people and make our relationships, be they personal or professional, better. Dealing with people is not an easy feat.
And here it goes…How to Win Friends and Influence People Review
The basic takeaways I learned were from his book include
1) Don’t criticize
2) Give honest and sincere appreciation
3) Arouse in other person an eager want
4) Talk in terms of other people’s interests
5) Remember names
6) Become genuinely interested in people
7) Avoid arguments
8) Be a good listener
I can see how I can apply these in my professional and personal world. You will learn a lot in how to interact with people and so the stories Dale Carnegie tells are enlightening and teach you a lot. He knows a lot about these historical figures. They were great leaders by the simple tools they have but not everyone has the same tools and can learn them. It’s nice someone else did the research. I can’t wait to see if these principles will help me out in my own life.
