Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score

Things We Never Got Over is the first book of the Knockemout series by Lucy Score. Knockemout is a fictional place in Northern Virginia where the story takes place with a whole lot of small town and southern charm. It’s also aptly named as the Morgan brothers enjoy knocking each other out and fighting it out. The citizens are feisty and seem to live by a similar philosophy as the Morgan brothers. I enjoyed this book and would recommended if you’re a romance novel reader and fan of charming small towns where everyone knows your business. It would be great if Knockemout was a real place so I could visit.

And here is my review about: Things We Never Got Over

Bad boy, bar owner and barber, Knox Morgan, confuses the main heroine, Naomi for her evil twin sister, Tina. A confrontation at a coffee shop between Naomi and Knox occurs, setting the stage for their relationship. Naomi, a runaway bride, deceived to come to Knockemout by her sister, Tina. Instead, Tina robs Naomi, steals her car and dodges town. Knox watches Naomi’s life implode in front of him and reluctantly helps her. Tina also left Naomi her daughter, Waylay, or rather Naomi’s niece, to take care of which Naomi didn’t know existed. Naomi lands a job at Knox’s bar by help of the wait staff. Knox has an attraction to Naomi he shrugs off and fights as Naomi is not his type. He even tells her to her face. Naomi and Knox’s relationship goes from hate to lust to love. There are some spicy scenes once Knox and Naomi succumb to their mutual attraction. Although a no strings relationship, Knox unknowingly becomes too entangled in her world helping her raise Waylay, Naomi’s niece. Knox has a complicated past and won’t admit how he feels until Tina returns to the town in an unexpected way.

I enioyed the book and felt like I got to know each character as a friend of my own. It made me wishing I lived in a small town. Knockemout reminded me of Stars Hollow from the tv show, Gilmore Girls, a show I watched and was an avid fan while it was on the air. Although there is the cliche of couple hating each other than loving each other, I enjoyed the relationship and how it played out. There are several other characters in the story who intrigued me with their storylines. Now there are two more books in the series following the other characters introduced in this book. I at least can continue living in Knockemout learning more of Nash’s and Lucian’s love lives hoping there will be guest appearances of Knox, Naomi, Waylay and dog, Waylon in those books. There is also a side story with Tina which is good for action and mystery book lovers. I would recommend this book for the romance reader and invite you to have a coffee (pun intended) as you get yourself lost in the town of Knockemout.
