Daisy Jones and The Six - by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book was a fun must read for anyone who loves music and wants to tag along a band’s music tour and success. It definitely takes you to another place in the rock and roll era and the wild parties. To the golden days of LA’s past music scene of Laurel Canyon, rock and disco. The story is about the the rise and fall of an infamous rock band. It is a fictional band but does have some inspiration from Fleetwood Mac.

And here it goes…my book review

It is written as an interview with the band like the special documentaries back in the day from E! True Hollywood Story or VH1 Behind the Music series. I found it an interesting writing style and it allows you to make your own opinion behind what everyone is saying in their interviews and different viewpoints. You get a closer look into the main characters. Daisy and Billy, who are interesting and mirror back each other. They may be soul mates who cross each other’s path and leave a lasting impression changing their lives forever.  They have a tumultuous relationship of love and hate with disaster at any time which can break them apart and can also break up the band.

There are elements of a love triangle not just of the main characters, but also a secret romance between band members. There are the quintessential elements of ego and fighting within the band of who is the best and living under the limelight of the main singers, Billy and Daisy. The women including Daisy, Karen, Camila and Simone are strong women with their own personalities making their own destiny. It does take you for one crazy journey! The characters are well developed and are not perfect which makes them easier to relate to. We get an inside look of the rise of the Six with the help of Daisy Jones. We see how they characters change, the good, the bad and the ugly. I found the story captivating so much so that I finished the book in a couple days. I would recommend reading this book for all the music lovers and those wanting a great success and romance story. It gives you a a glimpse into the rock and roll music scene and good old days you hear about from musicians.

I am interested to watch the Amazon TV series that is bringing this book to life and see the pages unfold. Although to me, usually the books are better. There are some things you can express in words that are harder to translate to the screen.

Book can be purchased from Amazon: Daisy Jones and the Six

You can also watch the tv miniseries on Amazon Prime
